I’m a recent college grad and the entire time I was in school I was searching for ways to make an income in my spare time. Most institutions suggest working less than part-time and I don’t know anyone who can survive on that unless they live at home.

My first year of college I was three hours away from home working a $10/hr for about 20 hours a week. Luckily my rent was paid but the funds just weren’t cutting in. Matters were a little easier since everyone I knew in the dorms was struggling as well.

No one should have to struggle to make ends meet especially when there are so many ways to make quick money. I learned about market research firms when I 16 and was introduced to focus groups. These groups are held by corporations to gather public opinion information. For instance, Mattel may host a group with 20 young girls to ask them about their newest Barbie. They will get hands on information to cater their marketing to millions of girls across the nation. This information is so important to their bottom line that paying these girls a measly $150 is nothing to them when they are in the market to earn billions from the feedback… Are you following?

If you have an opinion there is a company out there that wants it. You will get paid to give your opinion! Focus groups are of course only one stream of income. After I learned about these I found mystery shopping jobs, paid surveys, medical research studies… I went bananas.

I had money coming in at all different times from varying sources and still had a part-time job. Not to mention I was braiding hair on the weekends. I started trying to help my ramen-eating friends and only few followed suit. The few that followed were truly amazed. Years went on and I would tell friends on facebook about focus groups and show them my checks. Of course showing them proof made them very interested. I began sending them an email with everything I was doing to make money. Again, those that followed my lead were amazed but many never even tried.
